Water issuing from the rondel could be drunk directly from the falling stream. The basin below was for hand-washing, and the water’s final destination in the trough below was for animals to drink from. Today, placed against a garden wall or hedgerow, the Bristol Fountain makes an impressive feature, especially with the soft burble of water sounding across the garden.
