THE ANCIENT NYMPH – This dancing maiden is one of the ancient followers of Dionysus, who was the Greek god of pleasure. In this plaque she carries a ‘thyrsus’, which is a giant fennel rod covered with ivy vines and used in sacred rituals. A demure figure with head bowed, the nymph is draped in an exquisitely diaphanous robe. Fashioned after a 4th century BCE bas-relief, the Elenora Wall Plaque transforms a bare garden wall into a fascinating feature.
