THE SENTINEL – The lavish details of the Francesco Urn are a counterpoise to its otherwise starkly angular shape. Below the wide lid, the cone-shaped urn is decorated with bands of lacy patterning and two heavy garlands of leaves, ribbons and fruit. The tiny lobed bowl, and even finer socle on which the urn stands, make it appear to defy gravity. This urn deserves to be the centrepiece of a formal garden, or as a princely pair standing sentinel at a gateway or door.
