Our pieces are crafted to live outdoors and age beautifully over time.
With simple, considered care, your Yardware furniture will continue to develop character while maintaining its integrity for years to come.
General Care Guidelines
-
All Yardware pieces are handmade. Subtle variations in colour, texture and finish are a natural part of the material.
-
Over time, surfaces may soften in tone and develop gentle patina — this does not affect structural integrity.
-
We recommend regular light cleaning rather than aggressive treatments.
-
Never pressure wash Yardware products. This can damage the surface and shorten the lifespan of the piece.
Cleaning Composite Stone (Tables, Planters & Urns)
-
Clean as needed using warm water and a mild dishwashing detergent.
-
Use a soft plastic brush or sponge to gently remove dirt, bird residue or organic matter.
-
Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
For easier maintenance
We recommend Wet & Forget for removing mould and dark ageing marks.
Apply with a spray bottle, allow time to work, then lightly brush and rinse.
Bleach use (colour-specific)
-
Tuscan Stone and French Limestone only:
If stains persist, a diluted solution of mild detergent and one cup of bleach may be used. -
All other colours:
Do not use bleach, as it may affect the finish.
Efflorescence (White Powder Residue)
Efflorescence may occur on colours such as Ancient Rust, Black, Fossil, French Lime and Steel Grey when exposed to moisture.
This is a natural reaction within cement-based materials.
-
Clean using warm soapy water and a sponge.
-
Repeat as needed — usually 3–4 applications will remove the residue.
-
If persistent, a specialist efflorescence remover may be used according to manufacturer instructions.
Table Care & Handling
Everyday use
-
Tables are porous like natural stone — wipe spills promptly.
-
Do not place hot candles directly on tabletops, as heat can cause wax to absorb into the surface.
-
Tables are not designed to be sat or stood on.
Moving your table
-
Lift the tabletop vertically and carry it on its long edge.
-
Do not carry flat, as this can cause the top to crack.
Base placement
-
2.0–2.1m tops: bases positioned approx. 450mm from each end
-
2.4m tops: bases positioned approx. 550mm from each end
-
2.7m tops: supplied with support beam (must touch both bases)
Spill Protection & Sealing
At purchase, we can supply AquaMix Sealers Choice+, a breathable, water-based sealer that:
-
Retards absorption of food and oil spills
-
Inhibits mould and mildew
-
Is UV resistant
This treatment is not waterproof, but gives valuable time to wipe spills before absorption.
Reapply when water no longer beads on the surface.
Seating & Metalware Care
Metal chairs & bases
-
All metal components are galvanised beneath a hand-painted finish.
-
Over time, exposure to the elements may cause natural wear.
-
To extend lifespan:
-
Wash occasionally with soapy water
-
Rinse salt build-up in coastal environments
-
Store undercover when not in use for extended periods
-
Touch-up paint and replacement glides are available.
Outdoor cushions
-
Made locally using UV-resistant outdoor fabric and outdoor foam.
-
Foam absorbs water but does not retain it.
-
After heavy rain, stand cushions upright with the zipper facing down to drain.
-
Once drained, cushions are ready for use again.
Respraying Black Metal Finishes
If refreshing a black metal finish:
-
Wash with soapy water and allow to dry
-
Lightly sand to remove loose paint (do not sandblast)
-
Apply a metal primer suitable for galvanised steel
-
Finish with two coats of flat enamel paint
-
Allow proper drying time between coats
