SCALES OF A FISH – The fish-scale patterning of the Jalna Planter was first used in ancient times when making suits of armour. Individual metal scales were arranged in overlapping rows and laced onto a fabric backing. So attractive was the effect, that potters soon found ways of working the pattern into clay. The art has been perfected in the beautiful Jalna Planter, so lovely it is less a planter than a garden ornament.
