FROM OLD BURMA – The Burmese Rain Drum is a large, side table made of moulded stone. It has a radiating sun pattern on top, which is surrounded by concentric rings of geometric designs. The sides of the drum are also encircled with geometric bands, and at its base are two, traditional leaf images. Rain drums first appeared in the Dong Son culture of ancient Vietnam. These original drums, made of bronze, were used in battle, and later placed under downspouts to turn the sound of monsoon rain into music.
