FROM OLD CHINA – The Chinese Rain Drum is a small, side table made of moulded stone. On top is the wheel of life, surrounded by concentric bands of geometric patterns, and two dragons in pursuit of one another. On the drum's sides are more geometric bands and two more dragons chasing each other around the base. Rain drums first appeared in the Dong Son culture of ancient Vietnam. Those original drums, made of bronze, were used in battle, and later placed under downspouts to turn the sound of monsoon rain into music.
