FROM OLD RANGOON – The Rangoon Rain Drum is a small, side table made of moulded stone. It has a radiating sun pattern on top, surrounded by concentric rings of geometric designs. The sides of the drum are also encircled with geometric bands, and the faces of two spirit nats protrude as handles. Rain drums first appeared in the Dong Son culture of ancient Vietnam. These original drums, made of bronze, were used in battle, and later placed under downspouts to turn the sound of monsoon rain into music.
